GLOSSOLALIA

by The Chemical Mind

I surround myself with your gifts As you weigh onto my chest I am delighted And isn’t my flesh so beautiful under the skin you’ve wrapped me in? Your voice is a mirror And your spirit is scales upon my eyes And now that I am blinded I can finally see my reflection Let us sew our tongues together And the cries that we emit Will be the seams of a new garment Mutilate me; I have been blessed You swore it would be a gentle kiss That left me gagging and choking And isn’t my flesh so beautiful under the skin you’ve wrapped me in?
3.
Sometimes in my dreams My sisters walk across the burning field And I see them from afar And they are silent Their eyes broken mirrors cutting my hands Their tongues black cloths hanging from their mouths They bend to their hands and feet Leaving trails of blood from their noses The sun rises behind them They cast long and writhing shadows
4.
I am a creature that crawls and slithers along the ground Writhing in desire But in heaven I will have a new body I will never want I will never touch the filth of sin The Angel said “You are one” “You are the ocean” “Your guilt has departed” But where is my body? I cannot feel my skin Do not look at me I am behaving unnaturally Dressed in ancient clothes But in heaven I will have a new body Lips like a crimson thread Breasts like fawns Tongue like fruit and spice The Angel said “You are one” “You are the ocean” “Your guilt has departed” But where is my body? I cannot feel my skin
5.
You cry as a locust You speak as a pale red light But where are you in the lesions on my neck? Eloi, eloi, lama sabachthani? You will say my pain is not meaningless You will say that you hear my prayers But do you hear my screams? Will I taste you in her skin? Will I smell you in her breath? Can I dig you out with my tongue? When I cut her black cloth Will you be as the moonlight behind it Pouring onto my face as anointing oil? Eloi, eloi, lama sabachthani? YOUR VOICE IS A MIRROR AND YOUR SPIRIT IS SCALES UPON MY EYES IT IS ONLY THROUGH YOUR PAIN THAT THE MIRAGE OF PLEASURE EMERGES CUT YOUR BLACK CLOTH I WILL BE AS THE MOONLIGHT AND I WILL BEND YOUR SPINE BACKWARDS AND I WILL LAY MY HANDS UPON YOUR CHEST AND I WILL FILL YOUR LUNGS WITH SALT AND WATER AND I WILL GIVE YOU A NEW BODY

7.
I won’t show you my face It is covered in tongues Your eyes feel closed anyway As you weigh onto my chest I am afraid But your blood is so warm I might have known you before I died I am infinite You would not recognize me None shall see me and live
8.
My skin grows glistening tendrils Gold and bismuth and brass Connected by their roots To my quaking spine My tongue slithers and tastes the air Salt and iron and sebum My heart is beating rapidly And your fingers graze my lips Reaching down my throat I can no longer scream I belong to you
9.
Pain disturbs the pleasure I never had My lungs are hollow I can see through them Fill them with salt and water With your wanton eyes you have scalded me My mouth is full of worms And your tar coats my lungs I still taste your fingers pulling at my tongue Next time you touch me Adorn yourself with bells Tie a rope around your ankle And they will take back a corpse
10.
THEOPHANY 03:56
instrumental
11.
WHEN YOU LOOK AT ME COVER YOUR EYES WHEN YOU SPEAK OF ME CUT OUT YOUR TONGUE WHEN I BREATHE YOUR EARS WILL RUPTURE WHEN I MOVE MY EYES YOUR REFUGE WILL SHATTER I AM THAT I AM THUS YOU WILL SAY TO YOUR SISTERS I AM HAS TAKEN YOU FROM THE OCEAN

GLOSSOLALIA is The Chemical Mind's third full-length album. It is a significant stylistic departure, but follows in the quasi-narrative progression of the previous two albums, "Beneath the Shadow It Casts" and "That Benign Terror." It is The Chemical Mind's most dynamic, ambitious, and experimental work yet.
