That Benign Terror

by The Chemical Mind

/
1.
Seraphim 05:54
From the ocean I saw a black mass rise Casting no shadow, catching no light I cower in the wake of its unutterably faceless gaze Is this what I‘ve been praying for? Waking, seeping Into my teeth Out from my eyes Terror takes me It extends it hands And touches my lips The terror leaves me I hear its voice “Be not afraid Your prayers are heard Cover your eyes Cover your feet Your guilt has departed”
2.
Dominion 04:46
I want more So forget what I said before Which one of us is the master of my body? I’ve become the void herself
3.
I bear no resemblance to you I am only a graven image I am the remnant of a departed creature The vestigial wings of a flightless bird My body contorts to mimic you Yet I see nothing with one thousand eyes My body contorts to mimic you Yet I feel nothing with one thousand hands I cover the embers So while I look away They don’t ignite But the trees that walk around Step in the coals And the smoke conceals them My body contorts to mimic you Yet I see nothing with one thousand eyes My body contorts to mimic you Yet I feel nothing with one thousand hands
4.
Obelisk 02:42
An obelisk stands incomplete Built for the void But impotent A monument to uncounted cost Hate your father Hate your children Hate yourself Give them all to the void
5.
Sisters 05:00
At rest but not at peace I can see the flesh of my back Teeth sinking into the sky There’s nothing better than this We are your sisters Walking with broken legs You’re our little void And your last word will be a silence Take me by the throat Tie your tongue to mine Spite your silence and speak through me My voice is yours And yours is the only truth To know without thinking You are the yearning in my abstinence That benign terror arousing my envy That flame singeing the edges of my awareness
6.
Nephilim 03:48
We watched the stars spill Leaking onto the earth Subject to every kind of death Of those that died A few had sung The rest had listened To the nameless sound of that benign terror
7.
Apophasis 04:41
This noise stacks like stones on my chest I call out for help but break the silence I’m able to walk with broken legs Tie your tongue to mine and your feet to the ground Waking, seeping Into my teeth Out from my eyes Terror takes me When you arrive will I know you? Will you make your voice heard? Will your piercing fingers touch my lips? Will your truth flow through my teeth? Waking, seeping Into my teeth Out from my eyes Terror takes me
8.
Ophanim 10:38
My blood turns to water And spills into the ocean My desiccated carcass Lays beneath the stars Swimming within me One thousand creatures Guarding the throne Tending the garden I hear their voices “Be not afraid Your prayers are heard Cover your eyes Cover your feet Your guilt has departed”
